Job Description
The Forensic Fingerprint Supervisor performs functions relating to the processing, recovery, examination and identification of latent prints for criminal investigative purposes; and does related work as required. The employee evaluates latent prints for comparative quality and determines if latent prints meet criteria required for AFIS and AFIX comparison and entry into the indicated system.
The employee conducts latent print comparison analysis; ensures positive identification meets the ridge characteristic requirements.
The employee prepares and submits to the appropriate personnel accurate results reports for latent comparison hit confirmation.
Essential functions are as follows: evaluate, examine and compare fingerprints; conduct latent print examinations; fingerprint deceased; photograph and process evidence for latent prints; complete written reports; compile statistical reports; attend pre-trial conferences and depositions; testify in courts as expert witness; conduct progressive discipline within agency guildlines; conduct employee performance evaluations: Assign and direct subordinates; and performs any other duties that may be assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice, Forensic Science, Physical Science, Natural Science or related field; and minimum of three (3) years of work experience and 2 years of supervisory experience; or Bachelors Degree and any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
- Must have successfully completed Basic and Advanced Fingerprint training.
- IAI Latent Print Examiner Certification required or must obtain within one year
- Must have a valid Florida driver’s license
- Must respond to crime scenes as needed
- Must be proficient with Adobe Photoshop and basic computer programs
- Must possess good verbal, inter-personal skills, and written communication skills
- Must testify in court as an expert witness in the field of fingerprints
