by the Bay County Sheriff's Office and Gulf Coast Community
College.
The conference
will be April 15, 16, & 17, 2008 at the Student Union Building
of the college. Instructors at the conference include,
Sheriff
Jeff Dawsey -- Citrus County Sheriff's Office -- Providing
an overview of the Jessica Lunsford investigation
Special
Agent Al Danna -- Florida Dept. of Law Enforcement
Providing
instruction on interviewing the suspects in crimes against
children as well as an overview of the Child Abduction Response
Team.
Christina
Fernandez -- National Center for Missing & Exploited
Children -- Providing an overview of NCMEC's assistance to law
enforcement in the investigation of child pornography, as well
as missing / exploited children cases.
Mitch Nixon
-- North Florida Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force --
Providing an overview of the federal ICAC program, it's
beginnings, as well as the types of investigations conducted by
ICAC.
Sgt. Koren
Colbert -- Bay County Sheriff's Office --
Sgt. Colbert
will provide instruction on the collection of evidence from
crimes scenes involving child victims, as well as the proper
photography techniques used in the photography of injuries.
Major
Connie Shingledecker -- Manatee County Sheriff's Office --
Will provide instruction on investigating Sudden Infant Death
cases.
Deputy
Chief Assistant State Attorney Joe Grammer --
Will provide
instruction on testifying in court proceedings involving crimes
against children and how to prevent prosecution witnesses from
helping the defense.
There will be
a cost per student of $100.00. This will defray the cost of
books and other materials. Motels are being contacted for out of
town students, and those arrangements as well as a brochure will
be available shortly.
