Job Profile Summary

Broward College invites applicants for a full time continuing contract track teaching position in Criminal Justice.

Candidates should be passionate educators who can facilitate the needs of diverse 21st century learners.

This position is a 194 duty day contract position.

This position will teach traditional classroom freshman/sophomore college level courses in the area of criminal justice – crime scene emphasis. In addition to crime scene courses, full-time faculty may be required to teach other criminal justice courses such as, but not limited to, Intro to Criminal Justice, Intro to Corrections, Police-Community Relations, CJ Admin/Management, Juvenile Justice, Human Behavior in Criminal Justice, Criminal Investigation, Terrorism, Homeland Security, Criminal Law, Criminal Evidence or other classes in the instructor’s area of expertise. (This is not a Police Academy instructor position.)

The full-time crime scene professor is also responsible for the criminalistics laboratory. Laboratory duties include, but are not limited to, the ordering supplies and the maintenance/ operability of laboratory equipment.

Candidates should demonstrate (1) a mastery of their specific discipline; (2) a deep commitment to the college mission of fostering student success, achievement and persistence; (3) technology competencies as well as teaching/counseling skills and strategies that facilitate 21st century literacies; (4) the use of resources that prepare students for productive lives; (5) experience using various educational technological mediums.

Minimum Education:

  • Must have at least a Master degree in Criminal Justice, Forensic Science, Forensic Investigations, Criminalistics, Death Investigations or related field (or any Master degree with at least 18 graduate credits in criminal justice or forensic science or related field.) Degrees in Forensic Science are preferred, however, degrees in Criminal Justice or the Natural Sciences (Biology, Chemistry, and Physics) will be considered in conjunction with 5 or more years of substantial work experience in the discipline of crime scene investigations.
  • Broward College places special importance on helping under – prepared students achieve academic success.

Minimum Experience/Training:

  • This position requires a minimum of 5 years work experience in the field of Crime Scene, and a current Crime Scene Certification by the International Association for Identification is required. Criminal Justice work experience alone, without the minimum five years of work experience specifically in Crime Scene, is not adequate. Extensive work experience in the field of crime scene is preferred.
  • Some experience teaching college-level courses and/or law enforcement or corrections training courses is preferred. Candidate must also be willing to perform Program Manager duties, should department secure funding for this function.
  • The successful candidate must have a high level of computer literacy and a commitment to teaching.
  • The successful candidate will be expected to maintain active professional development activities and service to the Department and College. Committee work is expected.
  • All schedules require office hours and some may require evening and/or weekend hours.
