Joel Smith, President
Welcome to the year 2013. As your appointed
president for the year I want to thank you for your
interest and involvement in the Florida Division of
the International Association for Identification. I
trust the beginning of this year finds you well and
looking forward to new and exciting opportunities
ahead.
This association was
created for the dissemination of forensic
information and the training of both basic and
advanced scientific practices. Our goal is to bring
you together with others who desire to learn and
share those keys that make all of us better in
serving the communities that surround us. It is also
our purpose to keep you apprised of new findings
that are useful to your job application and needs.
There are many resources on our active website and
between the pages of our quarterly magazine for you
to access. From employment opportunities to raising
your level of certification we hope to bring you the
tools of the trade with the highest ethical
standards available.
You should be proud to know
that Florida is the largest state division of the
IAI and it is because of you we can say that. I am
honored to serve you in my position as president and
want to make you aware of the many people that serve
on committees, as directors, officers and in
executive positions that make my job possible. There
are six regions in the state of Florida that have
directors to oversee quarterly training
opportunities. Get to know your local director and
make sure to contact them with specific topics that
interest you and your department for trainings. If
you don’t’ tell us what you would like to know more
about, we won’t be able serve you the best way
possible. When it comes to trainings through the
FDIAI we seek to make it possible and affordable for
you to travel to close locations and have an
informative experience worth your while. Become
familiar with our “Science and Practice Committees”
that do what YOU do. They can help find answers to
your operational questions using practical and
proven methods. Do not hesitate to contact someone
you may not know. We are all here to serve you and
make your job better.
If you have interesting or
even unique findings you like to talk about in your
career, think about putting it in writing. Our
editor is always looking for articles to be placed
into our quarterly issues. Contact information for
all officers who serve you is available on the web
pages and in the division’s magazine for your
connivance. If you desire to be more involved in
teaching, learning or assisting any way please
contact me or Vice President Igor Pacheco with your
thoughts, questions or ideas. It is our desire to
share the best resources of information that you
find useful in your daily work.
We have already begun
planning our 54th FDIAI Educational
Conference to be located in Miami, FL on October 20
through the 24th 2013. We look forward to
seeing you there. May God bless you for a prosperous
year to come,
“All
The best”
